Based in an old factory on Gadigal land, Sydney, Belvoir is one of Australia’s most celebrated and beloved theatre companies. Since 1984, when a group of 600 theatre-lovers came together to buy a theatre and save it from becoming an apartment block, Belvoir has been at the forefront of Australian storytelling for the stage. Shaffa brings the sights, sounds, smells and spirit of Tel Aviv’s vibrant, bustling markets to Sydney’s Surry Hills, courtesy of owner Erez Nahum who spent his childhood there exploring aromatic alleys and sampling street food. A heady mix of fragrances escape the kitchen, with a menu of beautifully-plated share-style dishes using vibrant fresh produce and unique ingredients. Delicious food is complemented by a collection of cocktails infused with flavours of the Middle East and beyond!

In the early years of colonisation, a young Aboriginal man, Ty, sits under the knotted branches of a lemon tree. He is learning to be his mob’s storyteller, but for now he is a messenger sent to exchange information with a neighbouring clan group. It’s Neddy who shows up to share the news. When they look at each other, it’s tense, exciting, and strange – “as they fall in love with each other, we fall in love with them” (SMH).

We’re creating a museum for the future!
Plans are underway to transform the Sydney Jewish Museum into a state-of-the-art museum celebrating Jewish life and history, while continuing to educate about the Holocaust and promote important messages of tolerance.
Expected to be completed in early 2027, the project will see the Museum’s existing Darlinghurst site expanded to include new, modern, tech-enabled galleries and educational spaces with the capacity to welcome 100,000 visitors per year.

Get ready to fall in love all over again. This restless city has a story to tell.

Inspired by a personal moment of profound love and generosity, bestselling author – and one of Australia’s finest journalists – Trent Dalton spent two months in 2021 gathering stories on his sky-blue 1960s Olivetti typewriter, on a prominent street corner in Brisbane’s CBD. Speaking to Australians from all walks of life, he asked them one simple thing: ‘Can you please tell me a love story?’ What followed was Dalton’s latest warm, wise, poignant, funny and moving story about love, in all its guises.
